South Florida houses many museums, among them NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami and the Perez Art Museum of Miami. For the month of April and early May, Weston will open its own museum. The City of Weston and the Arts Council of Greater Weston are delighted to present the 19th annual edition of the Student Artist Showcase. This student museum will feature the up-and-coming artists who may in the future be added to the list of art masters. It will be open to the public from April 1 through May 5 at the Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road, Weston, FL. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The showcase will feature around 150 artworks created by talented students from elementary, middle, and high schools across Weston, celebrating the creativity of our local young artists. This is the first year the display will be entirely at the Community Center.
The work of approximately 14 schools and 19 art teachers will be represented. Without the enthusiastic cooperation of these teachers, we could not hold this event, and we thank them for their dedication to their students and to art.
The artwork will be judged by Juliana Sierra, visual artist and interior designer, Weston Art Guild member; Maria Garces Luzuriaga, visual artist, art teacher and art coach; and
Lifrancis Rojas, visual artist, ACGW Director and SAS codirector. Judges will select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and honorable mention from these grades: Pre K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, 9-10 and 10-12. There is an added category for digital art and digital photography.
Shown are some of the entries from 2026, so you can see the quality of the work. Each year, an attendee asks, “Are these for sale?”
A reception will be held in early May for the students, their families, and the teachers, culminating the Showcase with awards and prizes.
Article after article notes the value of the arts in promoting health and a sense of oneness among us. Laura Dobrzanski, Arts Council President, notes, “I’m delighted that the Student Artist Showcase gives our young artists a chance to share their creativity. It reminds us how the arts support well-being and bring our community together. We look forward to celebrating their work at a gallery-style reception in early May.”
