Weston Residents Celebrated Among Broward’s Outstanding Women Leaders

Although March marked National Women’s History Month, the impact of the women recognized by the Broward County Commission on the Status of Women continues to resonate well beyond the month itself. This year’s theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” celebrates women making lasting contributions to their communities, and the Commission honored 14 leaders whose work has helped shape Broward County’s social, economic, and civic landscape.

Among this year’s honorees are two Weston residents, Ana Valladares and Laura Dobrzanski. Their recognition highlights the many ways women continue to help build stronger, more resilient communities throughout Broward County.

Born in Cuba, raised in Venezuela, Ana Valladares has been a resident of Weston since 1984.  She is CEO of Mujeres Latinas Empowering Women, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization empowering women, girls, and families by providing culturally responsive mental health support, educational resources, and leadership development opportunities. Founded in 1999 in Weston, Mujeres Latinas has been a trusted resource within the community.  Through mentorship, advocacy, and direct services, the organization strengthens families, fosters economic empowerment, and ensures that women, girls, and families can thrive while preserving their cultural heritage. Ana has dedicated her career to expanding these opportunities through leadership in nonprofit and community organizations. She currently serves on the Executive Board of Broward Behavioral Health Coalition and on the United Way of Broward Coalition on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention and chairs the Latino Initiative Action Team at United Way.  Ana commented, “This recognition is especially meaningful because it is shared among women who strengthen the heart of our community every day, making an impact not only in the workforce, but in every aspect of the health and well-being of our community. I am honored to stand among women who inspire, lead, and uplift us all, a reminder that real change happens when we lead together.”

Laura Dobrzanski, Vice President of Business Operations at Omniangle Technologies, has helped advance cyber intelligence solutions. She actively serves in civic organizations, such as the Rotary Club of Weston and the Weston YMCA, and leads The Arts Council of Greater Weston as President, shaping the cultural arts opportunities and community events offered throughout the year in Weston. Laura has been a Weston resident since 1986.  She says,  “This recognition is especially meaningful because it’s shared with women who strengthen the fabric of our community every day. I’m honored to be included among so many who lead by example, uplift others, and remind us that lasting change comes when we work together.’

Mayor Margaret Brown supports the recognition of these outstanding women.  “On behalf of the City of Weston, we are incredibly proud to recognize Ana Valladares and Laura Dobrzanski for their outstanding contributions to our community. Through their leadership, innovation, and dedication to service, they exemplify the spirit of Women’s History Month and this year’s theme of shaping a sustainable future. Weston is fortunate to be home to such dynamic and inspiring women, and we were honored to celebrate their achievements with a City proclamation.”
