One of the world’s most renowned paintings is “Sunday in the Park” by noted artist Georges Seurat. On Sunday, March 8, well over 1000 attendees showed up in the Town Center Park to create their own masterpiece on the 21’ long graffiti wall that is always a major focus of Celebrate the Arts Day.
This event, presented jointly by the City of Weston, the Arts Council of Greater Weston and the Weston Music Society, focuses on all forms of art. It is geared toward families and features student band, choral, and drama presentations and various art and musical activities at booths that feature these disciplines.
One parent noted, “I am so glad you were able to find a replacement day. It means so much to the kids.” The original date was canceled because of the cold and windy weather. The event included many booth activities from many schools that highlighted music, art, and science by Code Ninjas. It also featured music throughout the day performed by students from our city schools and music schools.
An addition this year was a beautiful spring artwork exhibit by the Weston Art Guild, which drew many positive comments from the crowd.
Article after article extols the positive effect the arts have on health and on bringing us together. Jami Nix Rahn, ACGW Past President and Event Director, noted, “After having to reschedule the event, it was incredibly rewarding to see the community come together to support our students, artists, and performers. It took a real effort for these passionate, dedicated visual and performing artists to find time to participate on a new date. We are so grateful to all of them.”
