The City of Miramar is calling on residents to help families affected by devastating earthquakes in Venezuela through a citywide humanitarian relief campaign. Recognizing the close ties between Miramar and South Florida’s Venezuelan community, the city has partnered with Global Empowerment Mission, an international disaster-relief organization, to collect essential supplies and deliver them to impacted communities.
Residents can contribute nonperishable food, bottled water, batteries, blankets, first-aid kits, hand sanitizer and other hygiene products. The effort is also accepting baby supplies, adult and children’s diapers, pet supplies, protective equipment such as gloves and KN95 masks, and materials needed for cleanup and repairs. Requested repair items include tarps, duct tape, industrial trash bags and shovels.
Organizers ask donors not to bring clothing, shoes, linens or similar items because Global Empowerment Mission is unable to accept them as part of this particular campaign. The organization will oversee the transportation and distribution of donated goods to ensure the supplies reach communities in Venezuela where they are most urgently needed.
Donations will be accepted around the clock through Friday, July 31, at Miramar Police Headquarters, located at 11765 City Hall Promenade, and at five Miramar fire stations. Participating locations include Fire Stations 19, 70, 107, 84 and 100, providing residents with collection points throughout the city.
The relief effort offers Miramar residents a direct and practical way to stand with families confronting damaged homes, disrupted services and shortages of basic necessities. Even a small donation can contribute to a larger community response and provide meaningful assistance to people facing an unexpected disaster.
