There’s a new flavor in Cooper City, and it comes by way of London. Svaada London Curry House, which opened in June, is introducing South Florida diners to London Curry a distinctive style of Indian cuisine that evolved in one of the world’s great culinary capitals.
Led by Director Geevan Sankersingh, Svaada combines the quality and complex flavors typically associated with fine-dining curry houses with the speed, affordability and relaxed atmosphere of a fast-casual restaurant. In fact, Svaada is the only London Curry House in Florida and the first fast-casual concept of its kind in the United States.
A London Tradition, Served a New Way
London’s large Indian community has helped shape the city’s celebrated curry culture for generations, creating dishes that blend traditional Indian flavors with a distinctly British curry-house style.
Geevan has developed its own hybrid preparation method based on traditional London Curry House techniques and is associated with a top-rated London curry house. Its curries feature a base consisting of more than 75 percent liquid onion, combined with flavorful spices including coriander, cumin, turmeric and fenugreek.
The concept also gives diners something they may not expect from Indian cuisine: customization. Guests build many meals in three simple steps: select a protein or vegetable, choose a curry, and add sides. “That’s how they do it in London,” Geevan explains.
From Mild and Creamy to Bold and Spicy
For first-time visitors, there is plenty to explore. Popular choices include Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan, Paneer Korma and Prawn Vindaloo.
Korma is an excellent introduction for guests who prefer a mild, creamy curry, while Vindaloo delivers plenty of heat for those who like things spicy. Geevan’s own favorites demonstrate just how varied the menu can be. “I love the Korma and Chilli curries,” he says. “Two contrasting curries in a meal is amazing.”
The restaurant chose Cooper City because Geevan believed the community would appreciate both the cuisine and the approachable concept. Early customer response appears to confirm that instinct. One memorable guest who had lived in Liverpool brought friends back after discovering Svaada, thrilled to find the flavors he remembered from England available in South Florida.
More Than Just a Meal
Svaada’s goal is to make authentic London Curry accessible enough to enjoy regularly while still delivering the quality and experience diners expect from a specialty restaurant.
As the restaurant becomes established, the team plans to introduce new menu items and eventually explore the possibility of additional locations.
Most importantly, Geevan wants guests to leave with more than a satisfied appetite. “I hope that our customers feel like they’ve had a wonderful experience and that they’ve grown because of it.”
