Weston Friends Club Continues to Welcome Newcomers to Weston after 28 Years

Moving to a new place can be a bit overwhelming, especially making new friends and connections.   In 1994 Weston Newcomers Club was formed to serve as a welcome wagon to help newcomers become acclimated to the area and meet others with similar interests.  The Club grew, and several years later, the name was changed to Weston Friends Club.

The Weston Friends Club hosts a variety of games ranging from book clubs, card games [varieties of canasta, bridge, etc.], bunko, Mah Jongg, and Pot Luck Brunches at a member’s home.  Other monthly activities include a Lunch Bunch, Ladies’ Night Out, and Foreign Film viewing. Weston Friends Club organizes trips to museums, local theater performances, and Potluck Cocktail Parties [spouses invited] at members homes.

“In 1994, Weston was still in its infancy, with new residents constantly relocating here. Residents wanted to make new friends engage in various activities as singles or couples, and Weston Newcomers filled those needs,” explains Russo. “Weston Friends Club continues to be somewhat of a newcomers club, but also draws members who have been long-time residents. Many new members join after retirement or becoming empty nesters.”

The Weston Friends Club is not only an excellent source for friendships but referrals as well.  Members are always willing to share information when you need a dentist, doctor, restaurant, house painter, etc.

One of their most popular events is their Annual Holiday Party. On December 8th, the Weston Friends Club will host its Annual Holiday Luncheon at the Jacaranda County Club in Plantation. For more information or to attend the event, contact Nancy Russo, 954-385-1445
