Miramar First Responders Host Community Outreach Events

The Miramar Police Department and Miramar Fire-Rescue hosted several events last month to better engage the public. The events served multiple purposes, including helping citizens get acquainted with local law enforcement and firefighters and introducing residents to programs the organizations offer.

Miramar PD hosted “Coffee With A Cop” at Starbucks on Red Road on May 31st. The zero-agenda gathering was an opportunity for officers to meet with folks to discuss concerns or just interact. About a half dozen officers met with residents. A couple of brave officers even got behind the counter and made lattes and espressos. The event included no agendas, or speeches, just an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers that keep Miramar safe.

Miramar’s Community and Public Safety Event was held on June 11th at River Run Plaza on Miramar Parkway. The event was co-hosted by Commissioner Alexandra Davis and allowed Miramar PD  and Fire-Rescue to embrace the community. Information was provided on community programs, the Citizens Police Academy, vacation patrol requests, job opportunities, CPR classes, the Community Emergency Response Team, and more.

The Miramar Police Department is the city’s sworn law enforcement agency. It was approximately 200 sworn officers. Responding to 12,000 calls a year, Miramar Fire-Rescue is the city’s first line of defense for medical and fire emergencies. Both the police department and fire-rescue department are accepting new applicants.
