Coral Springs Update

By Mayor Scott J. Brook

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. It’s hard to believe the 2019/2020 school year begins in just a few weeks. As the kids return to school, I can assure you that the safety of our children and the quality of education they receive, remains mine and that of my fellow Commissioners number one priority.

Speaking of our schools, I want to congratulate our “A” rated schools – Country Hills Elementary, Eagle Ridge Elementary, Imagine Schools at Broward and Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) all maintained their “A” ratings. I could not be prouder of the fact that the City-operated school – the Coral Springs Charter School received an “A” rating for the 16th consecutive year.

Our City Commission remains so excited to work with Commissioner Shawn Cerra, as he completes our team of five. Congratulations again to Commissioner Cerra and for showing such grace at your swearing in!

For our MSD Eagles community, I remind you that the Eagles’ Haven Community Wellness Center remains open seven-days-a-week through the remainder of the summer, with hours Monday – Friday 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. and weekends, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is so much to do and experience, and most importantly, it’s free! Check out their website eagleshaven.org for class offerings and schedules.

I want to remind Coral Springs homeowners to be on the lookout for their Proposed Property Taxes Notice (TRIM) in the mail starting the second week of August. These notices are mailed directly from the Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office. I encourage residents to take an active role in our City’s budget process by attending the hearings or watching live online at cscitytv.org.The Coral Springs Commission will hold our first public budget hearing on September 12th at 5:15 p.m. and second hearing on September 18th at 6:30 p.m. in Commission Chambers at City Hall.

Our popular food truck event, Bites & Sips, returns to City Hall on Saturday, August 31 from 6-10 p.m. In addition to the most popular food trucks in South Florida, the event will feature live entertainment and fun for the whole family. There is plenty of free parking in the City Hall garage, so just bring a lawn chair and an appetite.

Our City remains committed to honoring the victims who lost their lives during the September 11th attack on our nation, by annually hosting the Coral Springs 5K Remembrance Run. This family-friendly run is scheduled for September 7th and participants are encouraged to register as part of a team. To learn more about the 5K and our other City events, visit coralsprings.org/events.
