Parkland Update

By Mayor Christine Hunschofsky

With August upon us, it is hard to believe how quickly the summer is flying by, Especially with Broward County Public Schools starting on August 14.
Going back to school is often a stressful time – getting supplies, working out schedules and getting back into our normal school routine. While it can be easy to get caught up in the back to school rush, we have to be mindful that our children pick up on our stress and anxiety so it is important that we manage our reactions as best we can.

In the past weeks you may have noticed the change made to our city’s weekly “Parkland On Tap” email. We have added more content regarding capital projects going on in the city as well as general information. If you have not yet signed up for our city email, please visit www.cityofparkland.org/notifyme. Also, if you have not already done so, please download our My Parkland App on your phone. Through the app you can report issues and they will be routed directly to the city department that handles the issue. Additionally you can search the city calendar, review capital project updates and follow city commission agendas on the My Parkland app. Over the upcoming months, we will continue to improve our communication outreach with residents.

Please join us for National Night Out and Get to Know Your SRO on August 5 from 5:30pm-8:30pm at Pine Trails Park. It will be a fun night with police cars and fire trucks on display from BSO and the Coral Springs/Parkland Fire Department for the kids to look at and explore, an opportunity to meet your School Resource Officers for the upcoming year as well as music and food.

Finally, with the start of the new school year in mid-August, please remember to give yourself a few extra minutes when driving in, around and out of Parkland.  There will be many children and families biking and walking to and from school so please be a careful and courteous driver on and around school property and obey all crossing guard commands to help us keep our children and residents safe.

As always, I want to hear from our residents. Please free to reach out to me anytime at [email protected] look forward to hearing from you!
