Weston Music Society Schedules Summerfest Music Festival Concert

For many, the sounds of summer are of children laughing, birds chirping and hamburgers sizzling on the grill. Here in Weston, summer also brings beautiful music, as our city hosts the Symphony of the Americas’ annual Summerfest. The Weston Music Society has arranged for Florida’s longest running music festival to stop in Weston on Thursday, July 18th.

Summerfest features principal musicians from the Symphony of the Americas performing alongside musicians and soloists from acclaimed orchestras throughout Europe, such as Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Opera Orchestra of Bulgaria, Mission Symphony Orchestra of Switzerland, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and others. More than ten different countries are represented onstage at Summerfest concerts.

The Weston audience will be treated to music by Beethoven, Vivaldi, Mozart, Dvorak and other acclaimed composers, along with a commissioned arrangement by Italian composer in residence Lorenzo Turchi-Floris. Featured soloists include Symphony of the Americas Principal Trumpet Claudio Osorio, Summerfest Concertmaster Orlando Forte of Cuba performing a jazz improvisation of Rosas Rojas para una Dama Triste (Red Roses for a Blue Lady), as well as Angelo di Veroli, of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, playing the marimba (a percussion instrument consisting of a set of wooden bars struck with mallets to produce musical tones).

Weston Music Society President Lou Marett promises it will be an evening of fine music. “It is a pleasure for us to present this annual concert for all our residents to enjoy.”

The concert will be followed by a dessert reception, allowing patrons to meet the performers. Marett says, “This gives guests the chance to visit with world-class musicians and learn about their experiences in their own countries.”

During the concert, the Weston Music Society will present its Platinum Award to Weston City Commissioner Thomas Kallman. He is being honored for his service to music and the community. In addition to his devoted support of the Weston Music Society, Kallman spearheaded Weston’s annual Concert in the Park. That program was eventually replaced with the City’s WestonNights Outdoor Concert Series, which features three concerts at Weston Regional Park.

Summerfest is scheduled for July 18th at 7pm at Temple Dor Dorim. Tickets are $30 for general admission and $10 for students. Virtuoso Society tickets are $50 and include preferred seating, name listing in the program, and recognition at the concert. Tickets can be purchased at Mia of London Jewelers in Weston Commons or online at www.WestonMusicSociety.org.
