Cooper City’s 65th Founder’s Day A Day of History, Fun, and Fireworks

This year marks a significant milestone in Cooper City’s history as it celebrates the 65th anniversary of its founding. The city owes its existence to the vision of Morris Cooper, who, nearly 65 years ago, transformed a modest expanse of orange groves and cattle land into the vibrant community we know today. To commemorate this achievement, Cooper City is gearing up for an all-day extravaganza of fun, community spirit, and celebration during the 65th Founder’s Day Parade and Festivities, set against the scenic backdrop of Brian Piccolo Park.

The day’s activities commence bright and early at the Community Center with a One Mile Fun Run at 8:30 am, with proceeds supporting the Cooper City/Davie Relay for Life. Following the run, attendees can savor a delicious pancake breakfast hosted by Boy Scout Troop #118 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, with tickets available at the door.

A highlight of the morning is the Founder’s Day parade and float competition, starting at 10:30 am. This vibrant procession will showcase a variety of participants, including city officials, emergency services, high school bands, scout troops, sports teams, and local businesses, all marching one mile south along SW 90th Ave. from the Community Center to Cooper City High School. This year’s theme, “around the world,” promises a colorful and diverse display, with float decoration winners to be announced at Brian Piccolo Park at around 7:00 pm.

The afternoon and evening at Brian Piccolo Park will be packed with activities suitable for all ages, starting at 3:00 pm. Attendees can look forward to food trucks, community performances, Bingo, an arts and crafts show, the Cooper City Business Expo, bounce houses, and a BSO Police and Fire Expo, among other attractions. As the evening sets in, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, Orlando Mendez will serenade the crowd with live music, providing the perfect ambiance for a picnic under the stars. The celebration will culminate in a dazzling fireworks display at 8:30 pm, ensuring the 65th Founder’s Day is an unforgettable tribute to Cooper City’s rich history and bright future.
