On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, February 2, Town Center Park came alive with the vibrant energy of music, art, and STEM activities. More than a thousand attendees filled the park, immersing themselves in a day of creativity and community. The event was a remarkable collaboration between the City of Weston, The Arts Council of Greater Weston, and the Weston Music Society, each playing a vital role in its success.
“This year’s Celebrate the Arts Day was a resounding success,” said Jami Nix Rahn, Event Director. “The event was a testament to the creativity, music, and community spirit that thrives in our community.”
Music took center stage, thanks to the efforts of Stephanie Bescherelle, Treasurer of the Weston Music Society, who orchestrated a seamless lineup featuring eight school bands, a barbershop quartet, dance performances, and a mesmerizing Winterguard showcase. The grand finale, an electrifying performance by the School of Rock, left audiences cheering. “This opportunity to showcase the musical talent of these young people is wonderful,” said Lou Marett, President of the Weston Music Society.
The interactive Art and STEM booths drew equal enthusiasm, offering hands-on experiences for attendees of all ages. The Sagemont School Chess Club kept minds sharp with six simultaneous games, welcoming players from beginners to experienced strategists. A new and delightful addition to the event was the Cypress Bay High School Baking Club, where participants decorated cupcakes with colorful toppings, turning sweet treats into edible works of art.
Adding to the artistic energy, activities inspired by renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and The Dot book seamlessly connected to this year’s Graffiti Wall theme. Young attendees eagerly participated in the Chalk Walk, transforming the pavement into a vibrant canvas of creativity. Meanwhile, the Graffiti Wall became a highlight of the event, showcasing the hidden artistic talents of attendees and making this year’s display one of the best yet.
Laura Dobrzanski, President of the Arts Council, expressed her gratitude for the collective efforts that made the event possible. “We are so grateful to all the volunteers and staff from every participating organization who worked tirelessly before, during, and after the event to ensure everything ran smoothly. This ‘village’ shows what can happen when we all work together. We hope to build on this cooperation to continue growing meaningful community events for our City.” She encouraged those interested in contributing to visit 1weston.com for opportunities to get involved.
Weston’s Special Events Manager, Annalisa Walker, echoed the sentiment. “It was great to see the community come out in full force to enjoy this year’s Celebrate the Arts Day. Set against the park’s picturesque lake, the event brought together people of all ages in a shared experience of creativity and engagement. It truly embodied a sense of community.”
From music to murals, cupcakes to chess, Celebrate the Arts Day once again proved that Weston is a city rich in talent, collaboration, and community spirit.
