Coral Springs residents, young and old, have a new favorite YouTube show: “Traffic Thursdays.” The public service program, which is a collaboration between CSPD and the Coral Springs Communications and Marketing Department, highlights the department’s efforts to control speeding and dangerous driving.
Traffic Thursdays quickly became a cornerstone of the city’s community outreach efforts, delivering critical traffic safety information with a creative and engaging approach. From addressing aggressive driving to educating viewers on roadway safety, the series has captivated audiences both locally and globally, amassing millions of views to date.
The program follows an officer as he/she goes on traffic patrol, Like the classic TV show “Cops.” Each episode is narrated by the officer as they interact with the public and covers everything from friendly reminders for minor infractions to warrant arrest during a traffic stop. Residents can effectively go on a “ride along” from the comfort of their own homes.
Each episode’s “star” provides helpful advice and narration during and after each traffic stop and public interaction. It is a great opportunity for young and new drivers to learn some of the dos and don’ts of driving.
The program even won an Emmy Award in the category of Public Affairs Program Series for the groundbreaking weekly series. The Emmy was presented during an awards ceremony held in Orlando in December.
During the ceremony, Coral Springs Police Chief Bradley McKeone used his time on stage to honor fallen heroes.
“I’d like to take a moment of silence to remember the three Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office Deputies who recently lost their lives in the line of duty,” McKeone said, his voice resonating with emotion as the audience joined in a solemn tribute.
Lynne Martzall, Director of Communications and Marketing, emphasized the critical role of innovative communication in educating the public on safety issues.
“This Emmy win highlights the importance of creating informative and entertaining content that engages viewers on important issues like roadway safety,” Martzall said. “Traffic safety affects everyone in our community, and through Traffic Thursdays, we’ve found a way to connect with residents and viewers worldwide in a meaningful way.”
