It’s a long, hot summer, so the Weston Music Society is bringing cool music to your ears. On Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 7:00 pm at the Bonaventure Town Center Club, they are presenting “Pops Goes the Symphony”. The Jazz Symphony, a five-piece jazz ensemble of the Symphony of the Americas, Pablo Mielgo Artistic Director, will entertain us with their favorite jazz and popular music selections.
Diane Marett, Co-Vice President of Events for the WMS, is excited to bring this summertime show to Weston. She invites the community to “Come and enjoy this wonderful evening of jazz and dessert refreshments right here in Weston with free parking”.
A featured performer in the Jazz Ensemble is guitarist and vocalist Martin Hand. In 2013, he was appointed Music Director of the Gold Coast Jazz Society. He has worked with such artists as Henry Mancini, Burt Bacharach, Arturo Sandoval, The Supremes and many others. Born in England, he was influenced by the Beatles, and, on arrival in the United States, was further influenced by Motown, rock, standards and show tunes.
There will be a special treat at this year’s event. Before the Jazz Ensemble performance and at intermission, opera singers from the Olga Iglesias Project in Puerto Rico will delight the audience with arias from their repertoire.
Says Lou Marett, President of WMS, “Part of the mission of the WMS is to provide fine musical entertainment for the enjoyment of the families of Weston. This event will certainly accomplish that.”
Tickets for the event are $35, students $10. They can be purchased online at www.westonmusicsociety.org, at Mia of London Jewelers in Weston Commons (check or cash only), and at the door the night of the concert (check or cash only).
