Students interested in aviation can take to the skies at Miramar High School. The School partners with Broward College to offer students a dual enrollment Aviation Magnet Program.
The Aviation Science Program is designed to prepare students interested in aviation for a variety of post-secondary programs leading to careers in the industry, including commercial pilot, FAA-certified mechanic, aviation administration, and more. As a partner Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, this program track allows students to complete 24 dual enrollment college, post-secondary technical programs, or military careers.
Depending on a specific area of interest, academic courses are available at all levels of instruction, with students receiving core aviation courses that include topics such as flight theory, navigation, aerodynamics, history of flight, and meteorology.
The Miramar High School program has forged partnerships with several local aviation companies, including Miramar-based Spirit Airlines. There are already at least two Spirit Captains who have graduated from the Magnet Program.
To participate in the program, students are required to have a minimum 2.5 GPA and Level 3 or higher on the Math EOC and FSA ELA. The program’s highlight is training using the flight simulator in the state-of-the-art classroom. Students also have the opportunity to study and operate drones.
