Weston Rotary Run Goes Virtual

The past nine months have impacted us all in many different ways. For some, the biggest impact of the COVID-19 quarantine has been on their fitness levels! There is no need to wait until next month to make a New Year’s resolution to get in shape. You can hit the ground running on Sunday, December 6th for the 23 annual Rotary Run for Tomorrow and Mayor’s Challenge.

This year’s event will feature the same 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Half Marathon Relay as last year. The only difference: This year we are doing it VIRTUALLY.  Runners will register online and use an app to track their progress when they run their race. Entrants will have a week to complete the race between December 5th and December 13th.

In addition to the run, Weston’s new Mayor will host her first Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge 1-Mile Family Health Walk. This virtual event will be in conjunction with a cyber and brick & mortar  Fitness and Health Festival.

The Run for Tomorrow is Weston Rotary’s primary charity fundraiser. Over the past two decades, it has generated more than $1 million for local charities, non-profit organizations, and The Rotary Foundation. Race proceeds from this community and regional event go to the Weston Rotary Club’s local and international charitable, health, and educational projects, which include: Gilda’s Club, HANDY, Harvest Drive, Hope Outreach, LifeNet4Families, Sandy Nininger Jr. State Veterans’ Nursing Home, Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center, Broward Education Foundation, and Rotary International’s fight to end Polio.

The Rotary Club is best known for feeding the homeless and supporting people who slip through the social safety net. The Rotary also helps mothers recover from addiction without separating them from their families. The fight for a better tomorrow by providing life-saving vaccinations against polio, preventing the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses like zika and malaria. The Rotary also provides clean water and sanitation to communities in need, around the world.
