From beach scenes and sunsets to wildlife and street art, the world around us is quite colorful. More than 70 entries from amateur photographers captured this as part of the Arts Council of Greater Weston’s third annual Summer Instagram Photo Contest. “Life in Color” was this year’s theme.
“It was very interesting to see how the photographers interpreted the theme in different ways,” shares Contest Chair Carol Lema. “Some photos focused on the colorful beauty of simple things, while others captured color which can only be described as ‘in your face.’”
A panel of judges reviewed the entries, awarding points for composition, originality and interpretation. Cash prizes were awarded for first, second and third place, as well as the photo that received the most likes on Instagram. All of the entries were on exhibit last month at the Weston Branch Library.
“These Boots Are Made For Walking” by the_emerald_thorn won first place. “Cinque Terre Italy!” by Kianasphoto came in second place. Third place went to “untitled” by iridescentwaters.
Efotographys’ picture received the most likes.
Arts Council President Jami Nix Rahn says the Summer Instagram Photo Contest is a nice complement to the Arts Council’s cultural offerings. “Our Arts Council programs, which run during the rest of the year, focus on film, visual arts, performing arts and international culture. The Summer Instagram contest is an opportunity for amateur photographers – really anyone who enjoys taking photos – to be creative and express a particular theme.”
