The 2025 Florida Marching Band Championships (FMBC) State Finals proved to be a historic night for charter school music programs in South Florida. While the Pembroke Pines Charter High School (PPCHS) Marching Band achieved a groundbreaking milestone, their local peers at Somerset Academy (Pembroke Pines) reached the pinnacle of the competition, securing a state title.
Somerset Academy Crowned 3A State Champions
The Somerset Academy Panther Marching Band delivered a masterclass performance to become the 2025 FMBC Class 3A State Champions. Performing their 2025 production, “When the Forest Wakes,” the Panthers earned an impressive score of 89.35. In addition to the overall gold medal, Somerset Academy swept several caption awards, including Best Percussion, Best Music, and Best Visuals. This victory marks a significant achievement for the program, reinforcing its status as one of the premier marching ensembles in the state.
A Historic Breakthrough for Pembroke Pines Charter
Not far behind, the Pembroke Pines Charter High School Marching Band celebrated its most successful season to date. For the first time in the program’s five-year history, the “Jaguar” band qualified for the State Finals. Competing with their show “The Way Through,” PPCHS secured a 4th place finish in the state.
This fourth-place finish is a monumental step for the young PPCHS program, moving them into the elite tier of Florida’s 3A ensembles. Under the direction of Matt Espinoza and Isabelle Rodriguez, the band demonstrated remarkable growth, having previously focused on regional success before this year’s state-level breakthrough.
A Night of Excellence at Pitbull Stadium
The finals, held at FIU’s Pitbull Stadium in Miami, showcased the immense talent within the Pembroke Pines charter system. The success of both Somerset Academy and Pembroke Pines Charter highlights a rising era of competitive excellence for local charter school arts programs, proving they are now the teams to beat on the Florida marching circuit.
