More than 60 teen patients and their guests recently experienced a night of celebration and joy during the 10th Annual Prom at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (JDCH) in Hollywood. Thanks to the support of the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation and a dedicated team of hospital staff and donors, the event gave teens undergoing treatment a chance to participate in an important milestone many would otherwise miss.
Prom is often a rite of passage for high school students, but for those facing serious illnesses, attending their school dance isn’t always possible. JDCH’s prom brings that cherished moment directly to them, complete with music, dancing, and all the glamour of a traditional prom.

“This event is about bringing joy, connection and a sense of normalcy to teens who are navigating an incredibly difficult time,” said Kelley Morris, president of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Adolescence is already a complex stage, and our patients are craving the same milestones and experiences as their peers. Watching them light up with laughter, dance with confidence and feel like themselves, even for one night, reflects the heart of our mission at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.”
This year’s celebration was made possible in part by a $43,000 grant from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, which has contributed more than $347,000 to the hospital over the past 12 years. The foundation’s ongoing support helps fund numerous programs that benefit JDCH patients, including this much-anticipated annual prom.
The evening featured lively entertainment and activities, including a DJ, magician, photo booth, caricature artist, airbrush tattoos, cotton candy machine, and a raffle. Guests enjoyed posing for photos, creating art, and celebrating with friends, family, and caregivers in a festive, inclusive atmosphere. Many of the elegant dresses worn by attendees were donated by hospital staff and local community members.
In addition to the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, the prom was made possible through generous donations from JetBlue, EntertainmentResource.net, the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, Life Like Bella Childhood Cancer Foundation, Miami Dolphins, Jazwares, Ariann’s All-Stars Professional Cheerleaders, Hooters, Make-A-Wish, S.T.A.G., Chick-fil-A, and Sophia’s Butterfly Blessing Fund.
