Coral Springs Earns Prestigious LEED Gold Certification for Sustainability

The City of Coral Springs has achieved LEED Gold Certification under the LEED for Cities and Communities rating system, a distinction that recognizes its strong commitment to sustainability and improving the quality of life for residents.

With this honor, Coral Springs joins more than 200 cities and communities around the world that have earned LEED certification. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the LEED for Cities and Communities framework helps local governments measure performance and advance progress in key areas such as energy, water, waste, transportation, natural systems, and more.

To earn Gold status, Coral Springs scored 61 out of 110 possible points by implementing thoughtful initiatives that promote sustainability, strengthen resilience, and enhance livability throughout the city. The certification recognizes the city’s outstanding performance in areas including quality of life, water efficiency, transportation and land use, materials and resources, energy and greenhouse gas emissions, natural systems and ecology, as well as regional innovation.

This certification is a proud milestone in our city’s ongoing sustainability journey,” said Dr. Andrea Lemaitre, Coral Springs Sustainability Manager. “LEED Gold validates the work we’ve done to improve quality of life for all residents, support smart growth, and reduce our environmental impact. It also serves as a strong foundation for future data-driven initiatives that will guide city planning, performance, and innovation.”

This accomplishment follows Coral Springs’ 2024 selection as one of just 12 cities nationwide chosen to participate in the USGBC’s LEED for Cities Local Government Leadership Program, which provided technical assistance, education, and collaboration opportunities to accelerate sustainability efforts.

The LEED Gold Certification was formally recognized at the City Commission meeting on October 15, 2025, celebrating Coral Springs’ leadership in building a more sustainable, innovative, and
resilient future for its community.
