This year’s Chalk in the Park was by far the highest attended in its history. The enthusiasm and creativity that participants exhibited were like no other. “It’s always amazing to see the community come together at Library Park to bring chalk art to life,” says Annalisa Walker, Special Events Manager for the City of Weston. Over 70 chalk artists participated. Adding in those who attended to enjoy watching the artists, a total of 350 thoroughly enjoyed the creative day and the beautiful sunshine that helped highlight these efforts.
Lifrancis Rojas, an ACGW Board member, said, “It was an amazing event! I had such a blast with the artworks! It was super interesting to hear the judges’ thoughts.” The three judges, two talented artists and art teachers, Maria Garces Luzuriaga and Julio Cesar Banasco, and one photographer, Frank Rodriguez, shared wonderful insights after reviewing this year’s Chalk in the Park entries.
They were truly impressed by the creativity, imagination, and range of skills shown by participants of all ages on the theme “Into the Jungle”. Some of the youngest artists surprised everyone with their advanced drawing abilities and sense of composition, while older participants demonstrated remarkable technique, detail, and originality. The judges emphasized how creativity stood out above all. The way the artists interpreted the theme in their own unique style made judging both inspiring and challenging. In the end, they agreed that the real success of the event was seeing families, kids, and teens express themselves freely through art, turning the park sidewalks into a vibrant open-air gallery.
Everyone welcomed the return of Chalk artist, street painter and muralist Ken Mullen, happily watching him create his picture and taking pictures in his creation. A DJ and treats rounded out the day.
President Laura Dobrzanski summed it up well. “It was amazing to see everyone get into this year’s “Into the Jungle” theme. The park looked incredible thanks to the City of Weston’s hard work and there’s something special about watching art happen outdoors – it brings everyone together in such a genuine, joyful way.”
