Parkland’s bustling Hillsboro Boulevard corridor is set for two transformative developments: the high school expansion at Somerset Academy and the creation of Wedge Preserve Park, with a notable parcel across the street owned by Broward County Schools.
Somerset Academy High School Expansion
Somerset Parkland Academy, currently serving K–8 at 8401 University Drive, is preparing to debut its own high school right along Hillsboro Boulevard. A modern campus is in the works for fall 2027, featuring three academic buildings with 34 classrooms, a full-size gymnasium, weight and dance rooms, athletic fields, and even a rooftop play area, underscoring Somerset’s dedication to STEM and Project Lead The Way programming. The expansion will begin with grade 9 in 2027 and add one grade each subsequent year, supporting a graduated rollout of resources, faculty, and facilities .
Wedge Preserve Park
Just east on Hillsboro Blvd at the NE corner of Nob Hill Road, Wedge Preserve Park is gearing up for a June 23, 2025 groundbreaking, backed by a $45 million construction budget approved by the City Commission. Site plans showcase a playground, splash pad, multipurpose athletic courts (basketball, pickleball, ninja course), adult baseball/softball field, pavilion, boardwalks, fishing docks, restrooms, and picnic areas, crafted for diverse community use. Its stormwater drainage infrastructure, enabled via a recent agreement with the North Springs Improvement District, reflects Parkland’s priority on environmental resilience.
Broward County Schools Land
In addition to the two properties under construction there is the 10‑acre parcel directly across from Wedge Preserve Park is owned by Broward County Schools and is deed-protected for education use. The school board has been in active talks with Broward Health about a potential sale of the parcel since early 2024. The Board has approved negotiations (but not a sale) to transfer the land to Broward Health, which envisions a medical complex with educational components: training spaces for health science students, internships, and community health services
The three Hillsboro Boulevard parcels are some of the final pieces of developable land in Parkland to see their final use. All eyes in Parkland are now squarely focused on the C.W. Hendrix Farm, the 730 unincorporated property directly to Somerset Academy’s east.
