Rotary is dedicated to causes that build international and local relationships, improve lives and create a better world through seven areas of focus that allow us to determine how we can have the most impact on lives around us. The Rotary Club of Weston supports over 30 causes, through its volunteer and fundraising efforts, that fall into one of these seven areas of focus that include: peace-building and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; community economic development; and supporting the environment.
The Rotary Club of Weston’s environmental initiatives have allowed us to help our local community in several ways that have made a real difference. The Rotary Beach Clean Up day is scheduled every month and has attracted Rotary members and non-members of all ages. Buckets of debris are located and safely removed from our sandy beaches where they are a hazard to not only our fragile wildlife but to the humans that visit.
The Cypress Bay High School Interact Club, sponsored and supported by the Rotary Club of Weston, has a similar initiative collecting and disposing of plastic in our environment and recently collected and disposed of over 1000 pounds of plastic bags from our community.
Our Rotary Satellite Evening Club (SEC) took on a pollination project that has extended to not only educating citizens about the importance of helpful plants and insects, but in creating, with the help of Cypress Bay High Honor Society, a beautiful butterfly garden at Manatee Bay Elementary School to allow students to see the importance and benefits of taking care of their environment. Helping keep electronics out of landfills is just one more way that we are helping keep our environment healthy and safe.
