Since its establishment in August 2009, the Somerset Academy Panther Marching Band has been a beacon of school spirit, musical excellence, and community pride. Founded by Band Director Tatiana Rodriguez, the band initially started as a small pep band for football games but quickly grew into a full-fledged marching band due to overwhelming student interest. Over the years, Rodriguez, alongside Color Guard Director Adriana Jimenez and a dedicated team of instructors like Alexis Lee, Kayla Wray, and Andy Gonzalez, has cultivated a program known for its high standards and vibrant performances.

The Panther Marching Band, maintaining a robust membership of 70-90 students from grades 6 through 12, has consistently delivered stellar performances at school events and competitive stages. The band proudly clinched the Class 3A State Marching Band Championships in both 2023 and 2024, overcoming challenges like hurricanes and relentless rain. Their perseverance and dedication were rewarded with accolades such as “Superior” ratings from the Florida Band Association and first-place finishes at various local competitions.
One of the band’s most memorable performances was at Park Vista High School, where their show “Echoes of the Blues” captivated both the crowd and judges, earning them top honors. The highlight of their journey, however, came with an invitation to perform in the 2025 National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C. Representing the state of Florida on such a prestigious platform is not just an honor but a testament to their hard work and talent.

Preparations for this monumental event are in full swing, with rigorous rehearsals and community-driven fundraising efforts through platforms like InstaRaise and local sponsorships. The students are balancing their academic commitments while perfecting patriotic medleys and drumline cadences for the parade.
The Panther Marching Band is more than just a musical ensemble; it’s a family. The culture is one of support, dedication, and shared passion, fostering lifelong friendships and personal growth. Alumni like Rebeca Garcia, now part of the band staff, attribute their confidence and career aspirations to their time in the band.
As they gear up for Washington, D.C., the Panther Marching Band inspires the Somerset Academy and Pembroke Pines community, reminding everyone of the power of music, teamwork, and perseverance.
