On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of North Broward will bring the community together for an inspiring evening at the Coral Springs Sportsplex. This powerful event celebrates survivors, honors loved ones lost, and fuels the fight against cancer with every step taken.
This year, as Relay For Life marks 40 Years of Impact, we reflect on the incredible movement sparked by Dr. Gordy Klatt in 1985. His vision—running a 24-hour marathon to raise funds—ignited a global movement that has since raised an astounding $6.8 billion to save lives from cancer. Today, Relay For Life stands as the world’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising event, with 2.5 million participants worldwide dedicated to changing the future of cancer.
“Relay For Life is more than just a walk. It’s a movement that brings communities together to celebrate survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and raise funds to improve the lives of people affected by cancer,” said Event Lead and cancer survivor Chris Fletcher.
Game On: Leveling Up for 40 Years
This year’s theme—“Leveling Up For 40 Years – Game Over, Cancer”—promises a night filled with inspiration, entertainment, and community spirit. With over 50 teams and 1,000 participants, the event will feature:
A Special Survivor’s Lap & Complimentary Dinner – Honoring those who have battled cancer, including Thrivers still fighting and the Caregivers who stand by their side.
Luminaria Ceremony at Sunset – A moving tribute where candles light up the night in remembrance, hope, and solidarity.
Exciting Games & Activities – Themed around our “Game Night” concept, ensuring fun for all ages.
“During our Relay event, we’ll celebrate Survivors, Thrivers, and Caregivers—the true heroes in the fight against cancer,” said Chris Fletcher, a Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor.
Funds raised will directly support the American Cancer Society’s mission, funding research, patient support, advocacy, and education. This year, proceeds from the Relay Kids Zone will go toward Pediatric Cancer Research initiatives.
