south Plantation Marching Band

South Plantation High School’s Royal Regiment is marching toward history! The award-winning band has been selected to perform in the 2025 National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., marking a significant honor for both the students and the City of Plantation.

A Prestigious Honor for South Plantation’s Talented Musicians

Nominated by Plantation Mayor Nick Sortal, the band earned this incredible opportunity due to its outstanding performances, discipline, and dedication to excellence. This milestone continues a rich legacy of national performances, dating back to the 1970s, and solidifies South Plantation High School’s place in Florida’s musical heritage.

For many students, this will be their first time traveling outside of Florida, making the trip a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience. Beyond the parade, students will explore Washington, D.C.’s historic landmarks, gaining insight into the nation’s history while proudly representing their hometown.

A Setlist to Remember: Blending Tradition with Energy

The Royal Regiment is set to deliver an electrifying performance, combining traditional march-style music with high-energy crowd favorites. Selections like Get Ready and Big Ballin’ will keep the audience engaged while honoring the spirit of the celebration.

The Challenge: Fundraising to Make This Dream a Reality

While the band has been preparing musically, the biggest challenge remains funding. The trip covers transportation, four-star hotel accommodations, meals, and educational excursions, ensuring every student has a full and enriching experience. However, these expenses add up quickly.

To ensure every student has the opportunity to participate, the band has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign.

How You Can Help: Fundraising Efforts & Community Support

South Plantation High’s band members, parents, and supporters have organized a variety of fundraising initiatives, including:

  • Mattress Sale FundraiserSaturday, March 15, from 10 AM to 5 PM at South Plantation High School. A portion of every sale will directly support the band’s trip expenses.
  • Car Washes – Community car washes allow students to raise funds while engaging with local supporters.
  • Sponsor-a-Student Program – Donors can directly contribute to a student’s travel expenses.
  • Annual Gift-Wrapping Booth – Thanks to Westfield Broward Mall, the band’s holiday gift-wrapping fundraiser has been a major source of support.

Donations & Sponsorships: Every Contribution Counts

Several local organizations and leaders, including the Plantation Women’s Club, City Commissioner Jennifer Andreu, and Miramar City Commissioner Winston Barnes, have already stepped up to support the band. However, additional donations are needed to ensure every student can participate, regardless of financial circumstances.
