Rotary Club of Weston Completes Their Most Successful Run Event To Date

On January 8th over 3700 people got out of bed early on a Sunday morning to participate in either the ½ marathon, 10K, 5K or 1 mile walk through the beautiful, landscaped streets of Weston.  With magnificent Florida weather in the 60s, participants in the runs were provided with bright green Rotary Run for Tomorrow shirts highlighting our sponsors, featuring Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and many others.   Those crossing the finish line were awarded custom-made unique spinner medals for their efforts.   Those walking to represent their elementary school wore white Weston City Commission Cup t-shirts, with the winning school (the greatest percentage of student participants) receiving an ice cream party for all students as well as a cash prize. Following the run/walk, everyone enjoyed a Family Fun Festival where they experienced over 60 vendors and sponsors who shared information and provided fun activities and goodies.

The event has been designed to include the entire community in a day of fitness, fun and learning, raising funds for many local, national and international service projects.  This year it’s anticipated that the event raised over $100,000 that will be used to make our community and the World a better place in one of Rotary’s key areas of focus including 1. Peace and Conflict Resolution, 2. Disease Prevention and Treatment, 3. Water and Sanitation, 4. Maternal and Child Health, 5. Basic Education and Literacy, 6. Economic and Community Development, and 6. Protecting the Environment.

Thank you to all our sponsors and participants for making this event a HUGE success! If you would like to learn more about the Rotary Club of Weston, please go to WestonRotary.com or come to one of our weekly meetings – we meet every Thursday at 7:30 am at The Club at Weston Hills.
