Broward County is making strides toward a greener and more connected community with the construction of the Flamingo Greenway’s first segment in Pembroke Pines. This exciting project will bring a one-mile multipurpose path along the west side of Flamingo Road and the Snake Creek Canal, between Pembroke Road and Pines Boulevard, near the popular C.B. Smith Park.
Construction began on December 9 and is slated for completion by March 2026, pending weather or unforeseen delays. Funded by the gas tax, the project is led by Broward County’s Public Works Department’s Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division, continuing their mission to expand the county’s greenway system.
The Flamingo Greenway will feature a 12-foot-wide path designed for walking, jogging, and cycling. It will also include scenic landscaping, signage, and thoughtfully placed shelters with benches and trash receptacles, making it an inviting space for recreation and relaxation.
Once fully completed, the Flamingo Greenway will span 9.3 miles, linking the existing New River Greenway and Hiatus Greenway to the Broward/Miami-Dade County line. This seamless connection will provide enhanced opportunities for outdoor recreation and sustainable commuting for residents and visitors alike.
This project underscores Broward County’s commitment to enhancing its green spaces while promoting environmental sustainability and active lifestyles. The Flamingo Greenway will not only beautify the area but also improve connectivity across the region, creating a valuable asset for the community.
