Seeking Local Heroes Coral Springs Accepting MLK Monument Award Nominations

The  Coral Springs Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Monument Award is an annual recognition presented to individuals or organizations within Coral Springs who exemplify the ideals and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The award highlights values such as equality, service, dignity, and a commitment to social justice, mirroring the teachings and aspirations of Dr. King. 

The Monument

The award is closely tied to the permanent MLK Monument, located at the Northwest Regional Library (3151 N. University Drive). This Raven Black monument, known as the “Rainbow Coalition,” symbolizes Dr. King’s strength, dignity, and vision for unity and justice. It serves as a tribute to Dr. King’s memory and honors those who courageously advocate for human rights and equality. 

Eligibility 

Nominations are open to individuals or organizations in Coral Springs that embody Dr. King’s ideals through their actions, leadership, and service. This includes promoting community betterment, championing inclusivity, or supporting philanthropic causes.

The 2024 MLK Monument Award

Last year’s award was presented to local business owner and philanthropist Dan Bruck, for his valuable service and contributions to the Coral Springs community. As the owner of Kilwins Coral Springs for 22 years, Bruck not only serves hand-crafted chocolates, creamy fudge, and original recipe ice cream, but he also devotes himself to paying it forward with donations, fundraising initiatives, and overall support.

Applications for the 2024 MLK Monument Award can be submitted at CoralSprings.gov/MLKMonument. The application submission deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025.
