Trotting Towards a Brighter Future Central Park Elementary Raises $100K for New Playgrounds

Students and teachers at Central Park Elementary School (CPE) have done something unprecedented: They have raised almost $100K to fund new playgrounds. The school plans to rebuild and replace both its K-2 and 3-5 grade playgrounds, renovate its basketball court, and add shade structures to keep students safe, happy, and fit.

Central Park Elementary’s beloved Thanksgiving Turkey Trot FUN Run was on Tuesday, November 19th, and a different feeling was in the air. Parents, friends, and local businesses showed their support like we’ve never before. HCA Florida Westside Hospital was the school’s lead sponsor. We also acquired 22 other sponsors from all around Plantation. Beverly’s Jewelers, Sage Wellness, Kumon, Crack’d, PDQ, and Hungry Howies were all part of the group that helped the school attain its goal this year.

Students spent the day trotting around the back loop of school to the sounds of veteran DJ Tom Caminiti. Each grade trotted and cheered while wearing their matching event shirts, and parents watched and cheered them on from Sunset Park. Volunteers held signs and pom poms and wore festive turkey gear to make it a terrific day.

The kids earned fundraising prizes, and many went above and beyond. Principal Lori Turner was amazed at the community’s dedication.
