Bridging Continents Soroptimist International of Davie Welcomes Lithuanian Sister

Members of Soroptimist International of Davie were thrilled to host a luncheon with visiting SI Sister Audrone Dutoviene from the Soroptimist Lithuania Vilnius 1 Club. These connections remind us how much we share, despite being oceans apart. Exchanging visions, goals, and challenges fosters a powerful sense of unity and collaboration among Soroptimists worldwide.

Since its founding in 1983, Soroptimist International of Davie has made a lasting impact on the community. The organization supports numerous programs and initiatives across Davie and Broward County while contributing to the global mission of Soroptimist International of the Americas. Their commitment to empowering women and serving the community continues to grow.

In Lithuania, the Soroptimist movement has a rich history, dating back to 1939. Unfortunately, its activities were interrupted during World War II. In 1991, after returning from the USA, Vilija Pažemeckienė, a member of the Kaunas Club, reignited the movement by gathering like-minded women. By 1992, the International Soroptimist Club was officially registered in Kaunas under the guidance of SI European Federation President Gisela Frenderberg.

The momentum grew, and clubs were soon established in cities such as Vilnius, Tauragė, Šilutė, and Panevėžys. By 1996, with five clubs already established, the Association of Lithuanian Soroptimist Clubs was formed.

Today, Lithuania boasts nine Soroptimist clubs with 150 active members dedicated to advancing the organization’s mission of empowering women and creating positive change in their communities and beyond.
