Rotary Club of Weston Launches 2024 Commission Cup 1-Mile Family Walk with Exciting Kickoff Event

On September 18, 2024, the Rotary Club of Weston hosted the much-anticipated kickoff for this year’s Commission Cup – 1 Mile Family Walk. Held at Imagine Charter School, last year’s school winner. The event was a vibrant celebration of community spirit and fitness.

Rotary Run for Tomorrow Co-Chair Gordon Thompson and Commission Cup Chair Isabel Magette led the proceedings, welcoming a distinguished list of guests, including City Mayor Peggy Brown, City Commissioners Byron Jaffe and Henry Mead, the City’s Fire Chief and Sheriff, local school principals, the Rotary of Weston President, and other Rotary members.

There was also a special appearance from “Joe D,” the mascot for Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital, and “Olivia,” the Broward Sheriff’s Department therapy dog. The event marked the official start of the biggest family and fitness gathering in the City of Weston.

As part of this exciting initiative, the City of Weston Commission invites all Weston elementary school children to participate in the 2024 Commission Cup – 1 Mile Walk on Sunday, December 8, at 9:15 AM, hosted at Cypress Bay High School. Joining in on the walk is FREE for all. Schools with the highest participation, based on enrollment, will win the prestigious Commission Cup for their division, and the Rotary Club of Weston will also award prizes to schools that meet minimum attendance requirements.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic turnout for this year’s event! Let’s lace up and get ready for a day of fitness and community fun!
