The Grand Opening presentation of “Our Liberia: Making Hollywood History”, the Hollywood Historical Society’s first foray into a major City-grant-funded education project, was held at the Young Circle ArtsPark Gallery on May 31… and what a swell party it was!
The Hollywood and Dania high school and middle school student creators who participated all said they had a great time and learned a lot about the beginnings of their city.
“Andy and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of this project,” said HHS’s Susan Ostheim, who spearheaded and led the project along with Hollywood Historical Society Executive Director Andy Ruffner. “The student work proves that the kids learned, and we did too. Project-based learning is truly an effective method for the delivery of information and having the students meet the objectives. Plus, it was tons of fun!” she added.
“Each of the students took off on their own, and found their own connection,” affirmed Courtney Krasnor, a history teacher at Beachside Montessori Middle School, who worked on the project. “It really touched every single one of the students who got to experience it.”
