Bavarian Bliss in Coral Springs: Oktoberfest’s Legacy and Celebration

Celebrate Germanic heritage with authentic German fare and Bavarian treats. Coral Springs’ annual Oktoberfest celebration features the city’s twist on the traditional Bavarian celebration, with German beer & wine, traditional foods, authentic live entertainment, dancing, and activities for the entire family. The event will take place on October 14th at Coral Springs City Hall.

As with any traditional Oktoberfest there will be a beer garden serving up a variety of Bavarian beers and German wines. Adults 21+ are reminded to please drink responsibly. Music will be provided by The Swinging Bavarians with appearances by King Ludwig and Keg Tapping. There will be a host of activities for participants of all ages, including a kinder carnival area, lawn games and local food vendors.

Oktoberfest celebrations began on October 12, 1810 with the marriage celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I of Bavaria) to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. To celebrate their wedding, a large horse race was organized in the fields in front of the city gates. These fields were subsequently named Theresienwiese (“Therese’s Meadow” or “Therese’s Fields”) in honor of the princess, and the fest held there became known as Oktoberfest.

By the end of the 19th century, large beer halls, backed by major Munich breweries, became the main attraction. These large tents, capable of holding thousands of patrons, became iconic elements of Oktoberfest.

Today Oktoberfest celebrations of varying scales occur worldwide, showing the global influence of Bavarian culture and the universal appeal of good beer, food, and merriment.
