Irene Carraway, Director of the WFFS, is delighted to announce the 2023-2024 foreign films. “Our Committee views many, many films from multiple countries so we can handpick the best 5 films for our Weston audience”, she notes. “It is time-consuming, but so rewarding to hear the positive responses we get each month.”
This year’s offerings include pictures from Bolivia, France, Denmark, Japan and Italy. They feature social issues, emotional issues, hidden secrets – all the plots that will intrigue you. The films are subtitled in English and shown at the AMC Weston 8 Theater with two starting times, 4:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The first film from Bolivia, in Spanish, is “Utama”. In the Bolivian highlands, an elderly Quechua couple has been living the same daily life for years. During an uncommonly long drought, Virginio and Sisa face a dilemma: resist or be defeated by the environment and time itself.
Tickets will go on sale October 2 at these locations: Weston Community Center, checks only; the Weston Friends room in the Weston branch library (afternoons only), checks only, and online at www.1weston.com.
Ticket prices are – five series tickets for November 2023 – March 2024 are $40; four series tickets for December 2023-March 2024 are $35; single tickets, pending availability, at the ACGW table in the theater lobby.
Laura Dobrzanski, ACGW President, comments, “It is such a pleasure to partner with the City of Weston and the AMC Weston 8 Cinema to bring such a well-attended event. There is clearly a desire for foreign films and our community has taken the series to heart year after year.
