The City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is once again sponsoring a free family-friendly Film Festival all summer long! The presentations gets underway Saturday, June 17 with the showing of Disney’s Encanto and continue through August 5. The movies, rated G and PG, begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at The River of Grass Arts Park in the Susan B. Katz Theater, located at 17195 Sheridan Street in Pembroke Pines. No tickets or reservations are required for entry. Food, drinks, and pets are not permitted inside the theatre.
The Children’s Film Festival is a great way to get out of the heat on a Saturday morning and to enjoy one of the first-run, wonderful features. The Summer Film Festival schedule is as follows:
Saturday, June 17: Encanto (PG) – The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift — every child except Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger.
Saturday, June 24: Over the Moon (PG) – Adventurous young Fei Fei builds a rocket ship and flies it to the moon to meet mythical goddess Chang’e.
Saturday, July 1: Lightyear (PG) – Legendary space ranger Buzz Lightyear embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits Izzy, Mo, Darby, and his robot companion, Sox.
Saturday, July 8: Ponyo (G) – During a forbidden excursion to see the surface world, a goldfish princess encounters a human boy named Sosuke, who gives her the name Ponyo. Ponyo longs to become human, and as her friendship with Sosuke grows, she becomes more human-like.
Saturday, July 15: The Mitchells vs. The Machines (PG) – Young Katie Mitchell embarks on a road trip with her proud parents, younger brother and beloved dog to start her first year at film school. But their plans to bond as a family soon get interrupted when the world’s electronic devices come to life to stage an uprising.
Saturday, July 22: Princess and The Frog (G) – Hardworking and ambitious, Tiana dreams of one day opening the finest restaurant in New Orleans. Her dream takes a slight detour when she meets Prince Naveen, who has been turned into an amphibian by evil Dr. Facilier.
Saturday, July 29: Coco (PG) – Despite his family’s generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz.
Saturday, August 5: Luca (PG) – Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides.
