The Fort Lauderdale Neighbor Leadership Academy is a program designed for neighbors to learn more about the City and develop their leadership skills over five consecutive weeks. Each cohort will include up to 24 neighbors who are either new to civic engagement or have been actively volunteering in their neighborhood or with the City. At the end of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and be officially recognized before the Fort Lauderdale City Commission. To take learning into action, participants will complete a community service project at the end of the program.
The Neighbor Leadership Academy will be returning for its 12th Class this Spring. Classes will be held on five consecutive Wednesday evenings: April 19th, April 26th, May 3rd, May 10th and May 17th at the George English Community Center. People interested in participating must apply by April 3, 2023.
“The Neighborhood Leadership Academy has been a fantastically well-organized program that helps to develop stronger everyday leadership skills and a better understanding of our local city and how it functions,” said recent participant, Dennis Ulmer, “I would recommend this to anyone that lives in our city.”
To participate you must be a resident of Fort Lauderdale, 18 years of age or older and be willing to commit to all five workshops. The curriculum for the program includes session on:
- Public Safety and Emergency Management
- City Structure and Climate Resiliency
- Budgeting and Innovation
