Independence Day, most fondly called the Fourth of July, commemorates the Declaration of Independence of the United States on July 4, 1776. July’s signature holiday is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbeques, carnivals, baseball games, concerts, and family reunions. Plantation and Sunrise certainly know how to celebrate the holiday as both cities offer many festivities.
“Plantation’s Independence Day celebration started as a hometown parade organized by a few neighbors and has since grown into an exciting day-long event attended by thousands of friends and family from around South Florida,” exclaimed Plantation Mayor Lynn Stoner. “This year’s theme, Generations of Pride, is a perfect expression of the event’s history.”
The morning of the 4th starts off with a parade at 9:00 am at the corner of West Broward Boulevard and NW 46th Avenue, which will then head west to NW 69th Avenue continuing onto NW 4th Street, ending at City Hall with an awards ceremony. Please note the parade route roads will be closed to traffic during the parade from approximately from 7:00am-11:00am.
Later that evening, enjoy a concert and fireworks at Central Park, 9151 NW 2nd Street, Plantation. Big City Dogs, a Florida-based classic rock and blues band, will be playing music from the 1960s through 2000s. A Kids’ Zone and food trucks will open at 6:00 pm with the free concert starting at 7:00 pm at the Central Park ballfields. Zambelli Fireworks will follow by presenting one of the best displays in Broward County at 9:00 pm.
“As we look forward to commemorating American Independence and all of our country’s great achievements this July 4th, we’re also eager to bring the community together to share in the festivities. We invite our neighbors from throughout the County to join the City of Sunrise at one of South Florida’s largest Independence Day celebrations, featuring a Grammy award-winning musical act, family friendly activities, a parade celebrating the many present day superheroes who call Sunrise home, and a legendary fireworks spectacle surrounding the iconic BB&T Center. The very spirit of freedom exists in our ability to celebrate together this July 4th,” said Sunrise Mayor Michael Ryan
The City of Sunrise Fourth of July Parade & Family Fun Day also begins at 9:00 am with a themed float parade entitled Not All Superheroes Wear Capes which will wind their way west along Sunset Strip from NW 12th Street to City Park, 6700 Sunset Strip, Sunrise. The excitement continues with free refreshments and a children’s fun zone until 12:00 pm before the finale of America’s outdoor birthday party from 5:00 pm- 9:30 pm at the BB&T Center, One Panther Parkway, Sunrise.
The free crowd-pleasing annual event will offer live music by local rock band, The Rock Show, followed by the Grammy Award-winning reggae group Inner Circle, known for their hit songs Bad Boys and Sweat. A children’s area will have rides and inflatables, as well as an assortment of food and beverage vendors. The evening will conclude with a world-class fireworks display. Parking is also free.
