It’s that time of year, as the clocks have already sprung forward noting that springtime is here along with its signature holiday and many traditions. One symbol of the season is the egg, and most notably a decorated one for the holiday of Easter. Decorating eggs dates back centuries ago, along with the story of an egg-laying hare. Modern traditions have been added throughout the years including Easter parades, bonnets, and plenty of chocolates and candy.
However, the most anticipated event amongst youngsters is the traditional egg hunt. Children love the game of collecting the most plastic eggs which often contain tiny prizes and mementos. Many communities have organized hunts for the little ones to participate in including Plantation and Sunrise.
For years, the GFWC Plantation Women’s Club and the City of Plantation Parks & Recreation Department have co-hosted the annual Royal Egg Hunt. The event starts promptly at 10:00am, rain or shine on Saturday, April 20th. Children ages 3-10 are invited to bring a basket to celebrate the anticipated holiday. They will be divided by age groups and assigned an age-appropriate field to collect their eggs at Pop Traver’s Field, 6250 SW 16th Street, Plantation. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. A raffle prize drawing will be held at the conclusion of the hunt.
“This year’s egg hunt will be better than ever. We will be having the traditional egg hunt at 10am sharp, followed by free family fun activities including a petting zoo of bunnies, inflatables, a meet and greet with the Easter Bunny and more,” exclaimed Shannon Ryan Superintendent of Administration and Special Events for The City of Plantation.
Another popular Royal Egg Hunt is at the Sunrise Athletic Complex, 11501 NW 44th Street, Sunrise on Saturday, April 13th from 10:00am-1:00pm. All children ages twelve and under are invited to bring a basket and come dressed as their favorite prince or princess to hop upon a magical egg-finding quest. Children will also be divided according to their age groups. (10:30am – Walkers to age 3, 11:00am – Ages 4-6, 11:30am Ages 7-9, 11:45am- Ages 10-12). Admission is $5, and also includes a visit from King Bunny, face painting, arts & crafts, rides, and more.
“This is the GFWC’s 70th anniversary in Plantation, and throughout all the years the Club has always provided support for Parks and Recreation activities such as the Royal Egg Hunt. We will be there ‘egging’ on children of all ages during this annual fun-filled frolic,” added Helen Ackerman, Past President of GFWC Plantation Women’s Club.
